THE COACH
SHAWNEE HARLE – WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
A native of Campbell River, British Columbia, Shawnee played three seasons at the University of Victoria. She was a member of their 1981 and 1982 CIS National Championship teams led by coaching legend Kathy Shields.
Shawnee was named fourth Head Coach of the Dinos' program in July 1994. Harle joined the University of Calgary after coaching at Brandon University for two seasons. She previously served as an Assistant Coach for the University of Victoria Vikes for three seasons, working with Kathy Shields while attending the National Coaching Institute. In November 2000 she completed her Masters Degree in Coaching Studies from the University of Victoria and in January 2003 she attained her National Coaching Certification Program Level V. Harle is the only basketball coach in Canada, male or female, to attain her Level V certification.
Harle has a wealth of international experience. She served as an Assistant Coach for the Canadian National Women's Team that competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, the 1994 Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, Russia and the World Championships in Sydney, Australia. Three summers ago, Shawnee served as an international scout for Canada, traveling to Peru and the Dominican Republic to scout South American teams for the World Qualification Tournament.
Coach Harle was the Canada West Coach of the Year in 1996 and 2000 and her teams have never missed the playoffs. She coached the Dinos to the Canada West Conference title in 2001 and led her team to the CIS silver medal in 2000 and the CIS bronze medal in 2001. Last season, the Dinos caught the attention of the nation as they won 12 of their last 14 games, including an amazing stretch of 10 in a row to finish league play. They finished the season ranked #5 in the country.

THE SCHOOL
The University of Calgary celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 1996. The school has grown a great deal in this time and there are now almost 20,000 full time students and over 4,000 part-time students in attendance. There are many areas of study for prospective students to pursue and the University of Calgary offers degrees in sixteen different faculties.
For our four year bachelor degree programs, you must complete 40 half credit courses. A three year Bachelor of General Studies degree and five year joint and double degree programs are also available.
To be eligible to compete in a varsity sport you must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 courses per semester, and maintain a grade point average of at least 2.0 (which is a "C" average).

The University of Calgary houses some of the finest athletic facilities of any university in Canada. Built for the 1988 Winter Olympics, the facilities include one of only two covered speed skating ovals in North America, two hockey rinks, a triple gymnasium, racquet centre, an Olympic-sized pool, weight rooms, jogging tracks, an indoor climbing wall. We also hold sporting events at McMahon Stadium, Father David Bauer Arena, and the Foothills Soccer Stadium.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
(INFORMATION AND ENTRANCE)
The entrance requirements for some faculties and/or programs vary from year-to-year depending on the number of spaces available. For admission to the faculty of General Studies for fall 1998-99 and Fall 1999-2000, the requirements are as follows:
High school applicants must present an average of 70 % in five appropriate Alberta 30 level courses (or their equivalents from other provinces).
Students transferring from other post-secondary institutions must present a minimum G.P.A. of 2.00. This GPA is calculated over the most recent coursework completed to a maximum of five full course equivalents.

SCHOLARSHIPS
We are fortunate at the University of Calgary to be able to offer scholarship money to our players through a number of established programs. The funding comes from sources such as the provincial government, our Alumni, and other private contributors. Those players that are successful in their academic endeavours may receive this money to assist them with their educational expenses.
Tuition, books, and living expenses vary depending on your program of study and your living arrangements. Tuition costs are dependent on the number of courses you take. A full course load (ten half courses) costs approximately $3600. Book costs are difficult to measure but approximately $700 to $1200 per year. Living expenses are dependent on your situation and may cost about $400 per month.
