DINOS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES 2008-09 RECRUITING CLASS
CALGARY – University of Calgary Dinos women’s basketball coach Shawnee Harle has announced her recruiting class for the 2008-09 season.
"We have added six new Dinos to our team for this coming season and what a recruiting class!! Three of these players are local and it is so exciting to
have them stay and play for the Dinos!!
This is the best group of incoming players since the glory days of Leighann Doan and company.
I am so excited
about this group and when you add them to our returning players, watch out!!" Meet the new Dinos:
Ashley Ashman - 5'10" power forward from Bertchurch High School in Airdrie, AB
The earliest commitment Coach Harle has ever had, Ashley made the decision to be a Dino in July of her grade 11 year. Although she will take the
first half of next season to recover from her recent ACL surgery,
she will bring impressive speed and power to the Dinos once she has fully recovered.
With her remarkable athleticism, she plays tenacious defence and has the potential to be a force under the glass.
“Ashley is exactly what we are looking for in our Dinos program,” said Harle. “She is a tremendous athlete who runs the floor and defends and rebounds
like crazy. Most importantly, she is a winner in all areas of her life and she is a team player. "I am thrilled she has chosen to join Dinos Basketball and I look
forward to all she will bring to the table over the next five years.”
The reigning athlete of the year at her high school and Rockyview League MVP, Ashman is a five-year veteran of various provincial teams.
She was the youngest athlete in history to be named to the provincial midget team at 12, spending three years with that program. Ashman spent
the last two summers with the juvenile provincial team, winning bronze and silver medals at the 2006 and 2007 national championships. She is also
an accomplished track and field athlete,
winning a provincial silver medal in the 100m dash each of the last two years. She also placed fourth in the shot
put at the provincial level.
“I love intense play and hard defence,” Ashman said. “I really like the style of play of the Dinos because it is fast and aggressive.” Ashman had the
opportunity to play with several of the Dinos on a spring league team, and that experience contributed to her decision to join the squad.“I got to see
the girls throughout spring ball and they are a group that I would like to be around for the next five years,” she said.
“Over the past four years, Ashley has developed all the qualities necessary to succeed at the CIS level,” said Bert Church head coach Doug Wilde.
“Her basketball fundamentals speak for themselves. She is as comfortable with her perimeter skills as she is with her inside game, and she is a
remarkable competitor who will do anything necessary to get the result.”
Robyn Gibson - 5'10" guard from Spruce Grove Composite High School in Spruce Grove, AB
The second player to commit to the Dinos is Robyn Gibson. Robyn was a high school all-star for Edmonton and area as well as the Female
Athlete of the Year for her high school in grade 10 and 11 and the grade 11 MVP for basketball. A great all around athlete, Robyn brings a passion
and a love for the game that makes her extremely competitive and driven.
"Robyn is just beginning to realize her potential. I like her size and toughness on the perimeter and she is the kind of quality person we want in our
program," stated Coach Harle. Robyn had this to say about becoming a Dino, "I love how the Dinos play the game and I am so excited to have
the opportunity to learn from the great Dinos coaches and players. I like the fast paced, aggressive way the Dinos play the game and also the way
the team supports and encourages each other during games and practices. I am a hard worker, dedicated to improving my game. I love being part
of a team and I enjoy the relationships that form both on and off the court."
David Oldham, Robyn's high school coach added, "Our program is very excited that Robyn has committed to play at the University of Calgary!
Her tireless work ethic, commitment to the game, and high aspirations will fit in very well with the Dinos program. Robyn's overall fundamentally
sound skill set, highlighted by her ability to score will provide the base for a successful career as a Dino. Spruce Grove High School is proud to
send her on to a top program like the Dinos, and wish her and the Dinos all the best over her career."
Robyn has received early admission to the Faculty of Science with a major in Environmental Sciences and wants to work in environmental protection
once she completes her university degree.
Esther Graff - 6'3" post from Spruce Grove Composite High School in Spruce Grove, AB
The third player to sign with the Dinos is post player, Esther Graff. A long, lanky 6'3" post who can run the floor and block shots, Esther participated
in the Canada Basketball Centre for Performance this year, and the Regional Training Centre last year.
In 2006 she was a gold medal winner with her
Parkland Wild at the Alberta Summer Games.
Esther not only gets it done on the court but she also excels in the classroom where she currently holds
a 93% average.
Coach Harle states, "I love Esther's versatility. She runs the floor very well, she can knock down three's and her length allows her to both
shots in the paint." Esther addes, "I chose the Dinos program because it was my best and most exciting opportunity both athletically and academically.
Dinos love to win and that's why I want to be in this program! I am very excited about the development I will experience moving from high school to a
much higher level of play as well as knowing the Dinos program will also help develop me as a person." When asked what she bring to the Dinos
program, Esther responded, "I am smart, I work hard and I learn quickly. I am an optimist and I love to compete!"
Esther will enter the Faculty of Science and do the combined Science and Education combined degree. When she grows up she would like to be
a teacher.
Her high school coach, David Oldham states, "Esther is a fabulous basketball player and will make a strong contribution at the next level.
Esther's game is well rounded with great mobility, shooting range and court coverage for an athlete of her size. Spruce Grove High School is proud to
send her on to a top program like the Dinos, and wish her and the Dinos all the best over her career."
Alex Cole - 6'2" post from Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, AB
Recruit #4 is Alex Cole, a versatile 6'2" post who can do it all. Very mobile for her size, she is a shot blocker and difference maker in the paint. Alex
represented Alberta on the Juvenile Team in 2006 and 2007 and also participated in the Canada Basketball Centre for Performance.
"I truly believe Alex has barely scratched the surface of her abilities. She has so much natural ability and a multi-dimensional skill set that will allow her
to step in immediately and be a "difference maker". I can't wait to see her develop during her time as a Dino," says Coach Harle. Alex states, "I love
the fast and intense pace the Dinos play. I know I can bring a lot of intensity to the program and I also bring a will to win which fits perfectly with what
the Dinos coaches preach every day."
High school Rick Frey adds, "Alex is one of the top graduating players in Western Canada. A two time provincial team player and a three year starter
at Sir Winston Churchill High School, Alex is the perfect fit for the Dinos program. Their up tempo, exciting brand of basketball is ideal for Alex. She
will immediately bring an inside/outside presence to the team."
Alex has received early admission to the Faculty of Social Sciences where she will major in Psychology.
Megan MacLean - 5'11" forward from Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, AB
Another local player (yeah!), Megan MacLean will wear a Dinos uniform in September. A multi-sport athlete in basketball, volleyball and track, Megan has
been successful in all three. Her volleyball team won the city championships and placed 5th at provincials while her basketball team were also city champions
and won the provincial bronze medal. Megan is also a champion sprinter and hurdler where she won bronze and silver at the provincial track meet last year.
On top of all this, she is an honours student.
"Megan is the dark horse of this year's recruiting class. Because of her many talents, she has not yet seriously focused on basketball and many universities
were convinced she would play volleyball at the next level so she pretty much flew under everybody's radar. Dinos Basketball got a "steal of a deal" when
Megan chose to come here and she is another one who hasn't scratched the surface of her potential," Coach Harle states.
Megan adds, "I chose Dinos Basketball because it is an opportunity to play in a style that maximizes how I like to play. It fits me as an athlete. I also appreciate
the enthusiasm and dedication of the coaches.
Also, the University of Calgary has a lot to offer academically."
Her high school coach, Rick Frey states, "An outstanding, versatile
athlete, Megan's athletic ability and processing skills make her one of the top graduating
players in the province. With tenacious defense and offensive explosiveness, she will fit perfectly with the Dinos style of play."
Megan has received early admission to the Faculty of Humanities.
Megan Schaufele - 5'5" point guard from Holy Cross High School in Surrey, BC
The 6th and final member of the fold, Megan is another player that flew under the radar. She is from a 2A school in Surrey and not well known by the bigger CIS
schools. It's safe to say she is a "diamond in the rough" and many schools will be wondering how she got away and ended up on the Dinos roster! Yeah for the
Dinos!! Megan was a Fraser Valley and Provincial Tournament All-Star this season and has also been a Basketball BC provincial team member.
Coach Harle says this, "Dinos Basketball has now completed the final piece of the puzzle by adding Megan to our roster. She has tremendous "quicks"
and ability to push tempo is exactly what we are looking for. She is also a great, on-ball defender and that skill will be put to use as we intend to create offense out
of our defense this season. However, the main reason we recruited Megan is because she has the character we are looking for - her willingness to put the team
before herself and do whatever it takes to help us win."
Steve Beauchamp, her high school coach adds, "Megan has been a real pleasure to coach and we will miss her passion, enthusiasm, hard work, and leadership.
However, we are extremely excited for her as she pursues her goal of playing for a top CIS team. Her exciting style of play has attracted fans wherever our team
has gone and now, Calgarians will have the opportunity to watch her play. Dinos Basketball is one of the top programs in the country and their style of play will suit
Megan's skills very well."
Megan has received early admission to the Faculty of Humanities and hopes to have a career in either teaching or marketing.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM ANNOUNCES PAIR OF NEW ADDITIONS
University of Calgary Dinos women’s basketball coach Shawnee Harle today confirmed that a pair of outstanding graduating High School players will enroll at the
University of Calgary this coming fall.
Calgary high school graduate Lauren MacDonald will join the team after an outstanding career at Bishop Carroll High School in Calgary. A 6'2” post player, Lauren is
a member of the Alberta Juvenile Team, the Shooting Stars program, and played in the Calgary Selects game. She is also a member of the National Sports Development
Basketball Academy. While with the Provincial team she helped the team get a bronze medal.
An honors student with average of over 90% while at Bishop Carroll, Lauren will enroll in Biological Sciences as an undergraduate degree to medical school.
“Lauren will be a big, inside presence for us. She is a great Calgary success story. I do not think she was on any radar screen until last summer with the Provincial team.
Her improvement over the last two seasons at the National Sports Development Academy has been remarkable," Coach Harle states.
MacDonald averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds per game while in High School and was recruited by several other Canada West schools, including UBC.
"I chose Calgary because the coaching staff is committed to player development, team skills and it will be exciting to play in my hometown," states MacDonald.
Brittany Knievel joins the team from Dover Bay Secondary in Nanaimo, British Columbia. A 6'1" post player she is a member of the British Columbia Program of Excellence
and the Canada Basketball Centre for Performance in Vancouver.
She has been a part of various British Columbia Provincial programs including the Under 15 team that were National Champions as well as the Under 16 and 17 provincial
teams. In addition to playing basketball, Brittany competed in volleyball and has been her school’s Female Athlete of the Year from Grades 8 through 11.
"Brittany is a great fit for our style of play. She can play both back to the basket or facing the basket," states Harle.
Knievel is an excellent student who will enroll in Communications & Culture and hopes to eventually pursue studies in the Haskayne School of Business.
"The business program at Calgary is very good and I felt it was a good place to play basketball and continue my education," states Knievel.
Brittany was also recruited by UVIC and UBC.

CALGARY, AB
Calgary 83 Saskatchwan 87 (Overtime)
Canadian National team member Sarah Crooks poured in 35 points and hauled down 19 rebounds as the seventh ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies edged
the fifth ranked University of Calgary Dinos 87-83 in overtime. The triumph gives Saskatchewan a one game lead in their best two-of-three Canada West Central Division
basketball semi-final and was Calgary’s first defeat in ten games dating back to January 6, 2007.
The two teams met for the second consecutive weekend in Calgary with Calgary winning both games in close fashion last weekend to secure home court advantage.
Like the previous four games between the two clubs the contest was extremely close with 24 lead changes.
Calgary held a narrow 20-19 margin at the end of the opening quarter. Saskatchewan led by as much nine points midway through the second quarter but Calgary fought
back to tie the contest at 32-32 with three minutes left in the half. Calgary led 37-36 at the end of twenty minutes despite the 16 opening half points from Crooks.
The Huskies led the entire third quarter taking a 55-48 lead with a quarter remaining. Calgary’s offense took a big hit when inside player Michelle Willson picked up her
fourth foul with three minutes left in the third quarter but Calgary received quality minutes from Jamie Morck. Ashley Hill’s trey with 5:45 remaining put the Dinos ahead
62-59 forcing the Huskies into a timeout. Saskatchewan responded going on a 7-0 run and taking a 67-62 lead with just over four minutes left. Calgary cut the margin to
69-67 with two minutes remaining setting the stage for an exciting final two minutes and eventual overtime session.
The teams exchanged baskets with the Huskies leading 71-69 with 46 seconds remaining and Calgary having possession in the Huskies’ end but Crooks blocked Willson’s
jump shot with 33 seconds left giving the Huskies possession. Calgary forced the Huskies into a turnover with 23 seconds left and Morck hit a 10-foot jump shot tying
the contest with two seconds left at 71-71.
Crooks took charge in overtime with six points giving Saskatchewan a 79-76 margin with two and half minutes remaining. The Dinos cut the margin to 80-79 with 76 seconds
remaining but that was as close as they would get.
Courtney Coyle came off the bench to pace Calgary with 21 points while Willson added 17. Three other players hit double figures including Lindsay Maundrell with 14
and Whitney Haswell and Jamie Morck both with 10. Poor free throw shooting did not help Calgary as they went 20-for-33 while the Huskies were 24-for-31 from the line.
"What a great battle," stated Head Coach Shawnee Harle. "I thought our players really fought hard tonight. There were numerous times where it looked like we were out
of it, only to make some key stops and get some key hoops to get us right back in it!
We forced a turnover with 23 seconds left and when Jamie Morck hit the shot with
2 seconds left to put us into overtime, it felt like we had the momentum. If we had made a few more free throws, the outcome may have been different. Sarah Crooks is
certainly a concern and we need to find a way to contain her tomorrow night."

CALGARY, AB
Calgary 94 Saskatchwan 65
For the second consecutive evening the University of Calgary Dinos did not have an answer for Saskatchewan’s Sarah Crooks. The senior 6’2” member of Canada’s
National women’s basketball team put on another incredible display of basketball skills Saturday evening as the University of Saskatchewan Huskies defeated the
University of Calgary Dinos 94-65. With the win the Huskies advance to the Canada West Central Division Final next weekend at the University of Alberta and sweep
the Dinos in straight games winning their best two-of-three series.
Crooks, who tallied 35 points in Friday’s 87-83 overtime win, took control in the second quarter. She scored 17 of her first half 22 points, as the Huskies led 41-30 at
the half breaking open a tight opening quarter that saw Calgary ahead 17-16.
Crooks, last year’s CIS Player of the Year and finalist for the BLG Female Athlete of the Year in the CIS had a “double-double” in the opening half with 22 points and
10 rebounds. She finished the evening with 38 points, 19 rebounds and had three assists, three steals and three blocks. When she was not scoring or rebounding her
presence on the defensive end forced Calgary to alter their shots.
The Dinos cut the margin to six points midway through the third period but that was as close they would get as Saskatchewan did not allow Calgary any serious
momentum.
Senior Lindsay Maundrell was outstanding for Calgary despite only playing 25 minutes due to foul trouble but managed a “double-double”with 18 points, 10 rebounds
and three steals. Calgary, who swept the Huskies last weekend to secure home court advantage, was cold from outside managing just one trey in 15 attempts and were
just 14-for-27 from the free-throw line in the contest.
Saskatchewan was 7-for-16 from beyond arc and hit on 68% of their free throw attempts going 23-for-34. They also managed 11 steals as compared to just four for
Calgary. The Huskies shot 53% from the field as compared to just 36% for Calgary.
"This is definitely not what we had in mind," stated Coach Harle. "I honestly thought we were going to take it to third game but we just couldn't get anything going on the
offensive end. Our free throw shooting hurt us which surprises me - we have been very good from the line all year. Shooting 1/15 from the 3 point line didn't help either
and added to our inablility to create any momentum.
You have to give credit to Saskatchewan and particularly Sarah Crooks as she played like a woman possessed!
She was not to be denied and we simply didn't have an answer. Our kids played their hearts out and we used everything in our arsenal - it just wasn't enough. We ran into
a freight train tonight."
"We had a great season! We finished regular season play with a record of 15-7, ranked 5th in the country and our 10 game winning streak raised eyebrows around
the country. I don't remember a Dinos team that grew as much as this group over the course of a season. These kids gave everything they had - what more can I ask?
I truly believe this team is on the rise and our time is coming! Watch out next season!

CALGARY, AB
Calgary 85 Saskatchwan 79
Courtney Coyle came off the bench to score 18 points as the eighth ranked University of Calgary Dinos edged the fourth ranked University of Saskatchewan
Huskies 85-79 in Canada West women’s basketball action Friday evening. The win for the Dinos was their ninth in a row and their eleventh in their past twelve.
With the win Calgary improves to 14-7 and moves to within one game of Saskatchewan for second place in the Mountain Division. If Calgary wins Saturday evening,
they will finish in second place in the Canada West Mountain Division and host Saskatchewan next weekend in the Division semi-finals. If they loose they will travel
to Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan led 46-40 at the end of the opening half thanks to a dozen points from Crooks and Ashley Dutchak. Lindsay Maundrell paced the Dinos with a dozen
points in the opening half.
Calgary came out impressively to start the second half taking the lead 49-48 three minutes into the third quarter. The teams exchanged the lead numerous times in
the third quarter with the Huskies leading 62-60 entering the fourth quarter. The Dinos took the lead for good on rookie Ashley Hill’s trey with 5:30remaining making
the score 72-69. Calgary led 78-71 with three minutes remaining. Saskatchewan then went on a 6-0 run to pull within one at 78-77 with 68 seconds remaining but
that was a close as they would come.
Crooks went to the line with 61 seconds remaining and Saskatchewan trailing 79-77 but missed both free throw attempts. Whitney Haswell’s 10-foot jump shot with
47 seconds left put the Dinos ahead 81-77 and the team’s exchanged free throws with Calgary having a 83-79 lead with 25 seconds left.
Crooks paced the Huskies with 22 points and 21 rebounds while Dutchak also had 22 points. Hill had 17 points for Calgary and Haswell added 14 points and seven
rebounds. Courtney Coyle led the Dinos with 18 points.
Saskatchewan had 22 turnovers as compared to 16 for Calgary and Saskatchewan dominated the boards with 50 rebounds as compared to 36 for Calgary.
“Another big win for us tonight,” stated Coach Harle. “This was our first big test since the Christmas break and I really like how our players responded. We had to
battle for 40 minutes and didn’t get the lead until half way through the fourth quarter. We got some big stops and big buckets down the stretch. I told our players after
the game this was our first taste of what playoff basketball is going to be like – a battle for 40 minutes. And it doesn’t get any easier tomorrow night! Win or lose,
these games will help prepare us for playoffs next weekend.”

CALGARY, AB
Calgary 75 Saskatchewan 69
The University of Calgary Dinos women’s basketball team needed a sweep of their weekend series with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to secure home court
advantage next weekend. They did just that with a win on Saturday evening. The eighth ranked Dinos stretched their unbeaten streak to ten with a 75-69 win Saturday
evening over the fourth ranked Huskies. The win was Calgary’s twelfth in their past thirteen games and gives them a Conference record of 15-7. Their record is the
same as Saskatchewan, but Calgary defeated Saskatchewan in three of four Conference games giving them the tie breaker.
Calgary will host the Huskies in a best two-of-three Mountain Division semi-final next weekend in Calgary.
Saskatchewan led 18-15 at the end of the opening quarter with neither team being able to take a significant margin. Strong outside shooting allowed Calgary to outscore
the Huskies 23-14 in the second quarter staking the Dinos a 38-32 halftime lead. Sarah Crooks led all scorers in the opening half with 15 points while rookie Ashley Hill
led Calgary with 10 of her game total 15 points.
Calgary came out impressively to start the second half going on a 10-3 run in the opening three and half minutes to lead 49-35 forcing the Huskies into a timeout. After
trailing by 14 points, the Huskies took advantage of poor Calgary free throw shooting cutting the margin to 58-51 with ten minutes remaining, going an impressive 12-3
run. Calgary regrouped to lead 68-57 with five minutes remaining but Saskatchewan fought back cutting the margin to 68-65 with 2:50 remaining.
Calgary led 70-66 with 95 seconds left and took a 72-66 lead with a minute left on Lindsay Maundrell’s short jump shot. Maundrell, playing her final regular season home
game, led Calgary with 21 points, and also had seven rebounds and five assists.
For the second evening in row Crooks, last year’s CIS Player of the Year, was dominant for Saskatchewan hauling down 14 rebounds and scoring 26 points. Saskatchewan
out rebounded Calgary a 54-45 but turned the ball over 25 times as compared to 20 for Calgary.
“We had to sweep Saskatchewan this weekend in order to host playoffs and that’s exactly what we did,” gushed Coach Harle. “I thought we were better defensively,
holding the Huskies to 69 points. I know that down the stretch, games are won on the defensive end and we have really focused on that the past few weeks in practice. Hopefully it will pay off as we enter the playoffs. Our team has come so far since the Christmas break and it’s great to see all their hard work paying off. Let’s keep the train rolling into next weekend as we host the
Huskies!”
The Dinos host the best of three semi-final playoffs next weekend. The Huskies will be back in town and game times are Friday and Saturday, February 16/17 at 6:00 pm
and Sunday afternoon at 12:00 pm if necessary. Let’s fill the stands and make it a great home court advantage for the Dinos!

WINNIPEG, MB
Calgary 86 Manitoba 71
WINNIPEG — First impressions didn’t mean anything Friday night for the University of Manitoba Bisons womens basketball squad. After kicking off their
first-of-the-season duel against the University of Calgary Dinos (12-7) with fire and a first-half lead, the Bisons (12-7) were on the short end of a second-half
surge and fell 86-71. Melanie Schlichter led the Bisons with 14 points, with Michelle Hynes following closely behind with 12 but it was the 23-point game by
Calgary’s Courtney Coyle that eventually made the difference in the close-to-start contest.
The game started scrappy and it was clear from tip-off the result would not be final until the final buzzer sounded. The two sides recognized it, too, and
stayed tight through much of the first quarter, with the largest early-game lead seeing Manitoba ahead by only four points.
The Bisons led 28-22 at the quarter and built upon their lead in the second but Calgary also built up its game as the second passed and had Manitoba in
a 40-40 gridlock just before the buzzer. Hynes played hero at the bell and hit her sixth and seventh points, sending the Herd into the half with a 42-40 jump.
Manitoba looked good going into the third quarter, but the Dinos came out of the dressing room with different ideas and a renewed game plan.
Calgary sunk the first five points of the second half, then, after giving Manitoba a few points, turned on both its offensive and defensive A-games. By the
time the third-quarter buzzer rang, the visitors held a five-point, 61-56 lead over the struggling Bisons.
Manitoba started the fourth by tying the game at 61, but fell victims to Coyle’s three-point shot, which dropped five times in the quarter alone. Despite many
attempts, the Herd could not get anything to fall and quickly found themselves behind – trailing by as many as nine points throughout.
Manitoba’s loss marks the second time in as many years the visiting Dinos have collected an official series sweep at the Bisons – though this weekend’s is
technically only a one-game series.
Coach Harle had this to say, "This is exactly what we needed - a tough win on the road. It took us a while to get settled in defensively but once we did, I was
confident we would win. Our team always scores enough points to win, so it is our defense that has to kick into gear and hold the fort. I really thought we
did that well, especially in the 4th quarter. Courtney Coyle played like an All-Canadian tonight, hitting crucial shots when Manitoba tried to make a run. If teams
try to key on our shooters, we have 3 posts that can hurt you. That's a tough combination. To come into here tonight and handily beat the #7 ranked team in
their own gym tells you how far our Dinos team has come. This is a game we would not have won earlier in the season."

DINOS HOT START SINKS WESMEN
The Calgary Dinos were on fire on a cold, frigid night in Winnipeg. The Dinos connected on 54% shooting from the field in the first half as they went on to
defeat the Winnipeg Wesmen 97-85 Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre.
The Dinos ran away with this game early on building a 28-9 lead just seven minutes into the game. Calgary led 33-15 after one quarter, in which they shot an
amazing 73% of their shots from the field. The Dinos had early success on defence as well holding CIS scoring leader Uzo Asagwara scoreless through one quarter.
The Wesmen made a charge in the second quarter led by Randie Gibson, who scored 11 points in the quarter, including three-three pointers, but Winnipeg still trailed
50-32 at halftime. The Dinos continued their attack in the third quarter bursting out on a 13-4 run to build their largest lead of the game 63-36. Asagwara finally found
some of her shooting touch, scoring 13 points during a 23-10 Wesmen run to close Calgary's lead to 73-59 after three quarters.
The Wesmen continued to launch three's at will in the fourth quarter as they desperately tried to get back into the game. The Wesmen did close the gap to 10 points at
89-79 with just over two minutes to play but it was a case of too little too late as time expired on the Wesmen. Courtney Coyle and Michelle Wilson led Calgary with
22 points and 11 rebounds each. Coyle was a perfect six-for-six from three point range. Asagwara led the Wesmen with 36 points and five assists. The victory improves
Calgary's record to 13-7. Winnipeg drops to 12-8 and second place in the Great Plains Division.
"Wow, we were on fire in the first quarter," gushed Coach Harle. "Ashley Hill single handedly gave us an early lead with her 3 point shooting and we really had
Winnipeg on their heels. Our press helped keep it that way and our goal was to not let them get in any kind of offensive rhythm. Foul trouble hurt us in the second
half and I knew Winnipeg was due to go on a run. Uzo got hot and we were slow to adjust. However, I never felt that the win was in jeopardy. Our players were very
poised down the stretch and even though Winnipeg got close, Courtney Coyle silenced the crowd with her 3 point shooting. Add that to the reliable play of our posts
and Lindsay Maundrell controlling the tempo at both ends left the Wesmen with no answer. I was asked if it was a surprise for us to be on the road against two ranked
teams and win both. The answer is a resounding NO! This is how we've been playing the last few weeks. It's going to be an exciting run down the stretch and we
are going to be tough to beat!"
The Dinos are home this weekend as they take on the Saskatchewan Huskies. The weekend has huge playoff implications for three teams in the Mountain Division. The
1st place team gets a bye in the first round of playoffs while the 2nd place team hosts the 3rd place team in a best of three series. The winner of that series takes on
the 1st place team in a best of three series with that winner advancing to the Final 4. Three of the four teams at the Final 4 will advance to the National Championships
in Newfoundland. Here is how it all works:
- Saskatchewan is currently in first with a 15-5 record and they play Calgary this weekend.
- Alberta is currently in second with a 14-6 record and they play Lethbridge (2-18) this weekend.
- Calgary is currently in third with a 13-7 record and they play Saskatchewan this weekend.
Possible scenarios for this weekend:
- If Calgary and Alberta sweep, Alberta will finish in first place, Calgary will finish in second and Saskatchewan in third.
- If Calgary splits and Alberta sweeps, Alberta will finish in first place, Saskatchewan in second and Calgary in third.
- If Saskatchewan and Alberta sweep, Saskatchewan will finish in first place, Alberta in second and Calgary in third.
It is interesting to note that the Mountain Division is the only division in Canada West that has three teams with a winning record!

ABBOTSFORD, BC
Calgary 93 UCFV 72
Behind senior post Michelle Willson's 20 points, the Calgary Dinos roar was too much for the Fraser Valley Cascades. The Dinos
picked up their 10th win of the season with a 93-72 victory over the Cascades Friday night at MEI Gymnasium.
Fraser Valley's (7-12) poor first quarter, in which Calgary (10-7) out-scored the Cascades 26-12, proved too daunting a deficit to overcome.
The Dinos closed out the first quarter on a 22-3 run, with rookie Juliette Gonzalez basket putting the Cascades down by 15 points.
The Cascades managed to hold their ground through the second and entered the half trailing 42-29. It was shortly into the start of the third that the
Cascades would mount their comeback, as Carmella Silvestri's three-pointer highlighted a 13-3 run. Megan McAlister's driving hoop made it 59-53
with just over a minute left in the third. Unfortunately that would be the closest the Cascades would come, running out of gas in the final frame.
"We put ourselves in such a deep hole after that first quarter we were just forced to battle so hard to get back into contention," said Cascades head
coach Al Tuchscherer. "Once we made it a game in third, we just never had the energy left to overtake them."
Calgary out-scored the Cascades 26-16 over the final quarter, building a decisive early lead behind five unanswered points. Dinos fifth-year senior
Lindsay Maundrell would close out the victory with her team's final seven points. Maundrell finished with 16 points on the night in only 17 minutes of floor
time. Michelle Willson had the game high with 20 points and added nine rebounds. Wilson shot 7-for-9 as the Dinos collectively shot 55.9 percent (38-68).
Silvestri drained four three-pointers for the Cascades high of 20 points, making it her third consecutive game she has led the Cascades in scoring.
Silvestri now has 44 three-pointers on the season to rank second amongst Canada West leaders. Michelle Buhler scored 16 points and also added six
assists. Olivia Hunt contributed 11 on 4-for-6 shooting as Fraser Valley shot 47.2 percent (25-53).
"Calgary is a very athletic team that shot the ball well against us," said Tuchscherer. "They were much more precise than we were."
"We jumped on UCFV early and never looked back," said head coach Shawnee Harle. "I was really pleased with our focus and intensity and our defense
has improved dramatically. Offensively, we provide so many tough matchups because on any given night we have 5 players that can hit double figures. We
were very sharp tonight and that's the way we have been playing the last couple of weeks."

Calgary 99 TRU 70
The Thompson Rivers University Wolf Pack women's basketball team just couldn't keep up to the Calgary Dinos tonight in the TRU gym, where they lost to
the Dinos 99-70. The Wolf Pack held the lead until five minutes into the first quarter, when the teams tied and traded leads three times before the Dinos took
the lead, which they were to hold throughout the game. The Pack was down 13 points at the end of the first quarter, which ended 27-16 for the Dinos, despite
the fact that the Wolf Pack shot 40 per cent to the Dinos 38.1.
The Pack played a lot better in the second quarter, putting up 19 points to the Dinos 21 although their shooting percentage dropped to 34.3 per cent while
the Dinos pulled theirs up to 40 and also made eight points off turnovers to the WolfPack's three. The half ended with a 48-35 score for the Dinos.
The Pack suffered another third-quarter slump. After an initial basket by Jaclyn Cummings, the Dinos put up 16 points before the Pack managed another
couple of points, then after adding eleven points, got out-scored and out-rebounded, held to 52 points while the Dinos pulled their score up to end the quarter
leading 78-52.
The WolfPack battled hard in the final quarter, putting up 18 points to the Dinos 21, but by then the score was too lopsided. The Pack barely managed to keep
the Dinos from breaking 100, and the game ended 99-70 for the Dinos.
High scorers for the Wol fPack were Kali Ellis with 15 points, Sarah Cameron with 13 points, Kelley O'Grady with 2 points, Alix Stupich with 10 points and Jaclyn
Cummings with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Dinos top scorers were Lindsay Maundrell with a game-high 22 points in only 19 minutes of playing time, Whitney Haswell with 15 points, Courtney Coyle with
14 points, and Ashely Hill with 13.
"We came out a bit flat in the first 2 quarters," stated Coach Harle. "We had a little more jump in the 3rd quarter, outscoring TRU 30-17 which basically put the
game out of reach. It gave us an opportunity to play everybody and give some well needed rest to the players that have been logging big minutes. This has been
a tough road trip and to hop on the plane tomorrow with 2 wins under out belt couldn't make me happier! We have played some very solid basketball the past few
weeks and if all goes according to plan, we will be peaking just in time for playoffs!"

Calgary 84 Regina 54
Senior Lindsay Maundrell scored a season high 24 points as the University of Calgary Dinos defeated the University of Regina Cougars 84-54 in Canada West women’s basketball action Friday evening. The win for Calgary was their fifth in their last six games and improves their record to 8-7 in Conference play. The loss for the Cougars drops them to 5-10.
Maundrell went 9-for-16 from the field and 6-for-9 from the line and also hauled down six rebounds despite playing just 21 minutes. Calgary held a 42-31 halftime margin thanks to an impressive 10-3 run in the final two minutes of the opening half keyed by some excellent defense. Maundrell led the Dinos with 12 first half points while Chelsea Cassano led the Cougars with ten.
The Cougars went on an impressive run in the early second half cutting the Calgary margin to 47-44 with three minutes remaining the third quarter. Calgary regained their composure and went on a 13-0 run in the final three minutes to lead 60-44 with ten minutes remaining, taking control of the contest.
Courtney Coyle came off the bench to score 16 points and rookie Ashley Hill added 15 for Calgary who never let up in the final ten minutes outscoring the opponent 24-10.
Coach Harle stated, “It’s no longer a secret that our secret weapon is our defense! Regina simply couldn’t handle our pressure. It took them out of rhythm offensively and they were unable to establish any inside play. The pressure also led to easy baskets at the other end for us! I have no doubt this style of play is going to be key for us down the stretch.”

Calgary 92 Alberta 81
The University of Calgary Dinos rode a strong first quarter to a 92-81 victory over the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in Canada West Women’s Basketball action Friday night. The Visiting Dinos went on a 14-0 run in the final two minutes of the first quarter to take a 24-9 lead and never looked back. While the Horns out scored the Dinos over the final three quarters, they were never able to cut the Dino lead to less than 8 points. The Dinos were led by a balanced attack, with four starters hitting double digits. Rookie Ashley Hill lead the way for U of C pouring in 21 points, while Michelle Wilson chipped in with 15. With the loss the Horns fall to 1-12, while the Dinos inch closer to .500 at 6-7. The Horns look to put an end to their losing streak tomorrow night against these same Dinos, tip off at 6:30pm.
"We really battled hard tonight," stated Coach Harle. "We had a great 1st quarter and our press was very effective. You have to give Lethbridge credit as we had a couple of opportunities to put them away but were unable to do so. Winning the boards was critical down the stretch and we held them to "one and done." If we can sustain the pressure in our press for longer, we will make it even tougher for Lethbridge tomorrow night."

Calgary 100 Alberta 53
The University of Calgary Dinos earned a weekend sweep over the host University of Lethbridge Pronghorns with a convincing 100-53 victory. The Dinos opened the game pressuring the Horns hard, for which the Horns had no answer and the Dinos jumped out to a 31-9 first quarter lead. The Horns tried to claw back in the second quarter, taking care of the ball better and putting up 20 points, but the Dino pressure was relentless. At the half the Dinos held a 57-29 lead. The rest of the evening continued the same, as the Horns could not solve the Dino press, forcing the Horns into an astonishing 42 turnovers.
Leading the way for the Dinos was Courtney Coyle with 20 points, while Lindsay Maundrell chipped in with 15. With the loss the Horns fall to 1-13, while the Dinos stand at 7-7.
"Lethbridge had no answer for our pressure, " quipped coach Harle. "We just put the press in last week so we are still in the learning phase. I
thought we learned a lot from using it last night and it was even better tonight! We certainly were firing on all cylinders and it was great to see our team kick it into high gear. I think our best is yet to come and we have another chance next weekend to show it!"
The Dinos are home next weekend as they host the University of Regina on January 19 and Brandon University on January 20. Both games start at 6:00 pm followed by the men at 8:15 pm. Come on out and cheer on your Dinos!!

Calgary 73 Alberta 69
The University of Calgary Dinos held off a late surge from the Alberta Pandas to post a 73-69 win in Canada West University women’s basketball Friday evening. With the win Calgary improves to 5-6 while Alberta falls to 9-2. Calgary led most of the contest but a determined Alberta effort just fell short.
The Dinos took a 39-27 halftime margin on the Pandas leading throughout the opening half. Calgary held an 18-12 margin at the end of the opening quarter and stretched their lead to 17 points midway through the second quarter before Alberta cut into the margin. Alberta came out impressively in the second half outscoring and outplaying Calgary thanks to strong outside shooting. The Pandas cut the margin to 45-43 with 4:30 remaining in the third quarter and trailed 54-49 with ten minutes remaining.
Calgary stretched their margin to 67-56 with four and half minutes remaining but Alberta took advantage of Calgary turnovers cutting the margin to 67-60 with three minutes remaining. The Dinos led 69-63 with 55 seconds remaining and had possession but a pair of Calgary turnovers pulled the Pandas within two at 69-67 with 33 seconds remaining. Calgary managed to score on their next possession to seal the contest.
Michelle Willson led Calgary with 15 points with Courtney Coyle and Jane Meadwell each having 13.
“The last couple of minutes were pretty tense as we had a tough time taking care of the ball,” stated Coach Harle. “Our turnovers were costly and it definitely hurt us when Lindsay Maundrell fouled out late in the game. Having said all that, we just beat the #4 ranked team in the country so we must have done a lot ofthings right! You gotta love it!! I know we will have another tough battle on our hands tomorrow night – I can’t wait!”

Calgary 72 Alberta 57
Kristen Jarock scored 20 points and senior guard Michell Smith fired in 16 more and added 7 assists as the University of Alberta Pandas defeated the University of
Calgary Dinos 72-57 in Canada West women's basketball action Saturday evening.
The two teams continued the close competition from last evening’s game into the opening half of the Saturday evening game with Alberta leading much of the first
half, taking a 31-23 margin after twenty minutes.
The Pandas came out impressively in the second half outscoring the Dinos 20-10 in first eight minutes of the third quarter and essentially putting the contest out of
reach leading 51-33. Calgary had a chance to cut into the margin but several missed free throws prevented them from cutting the margin to single digits, giving
Alberta a 54-44 margin with ten minutes remaining.
A trey by Calgary rookie Ashley Hill allowed the Dinos to cut the margin to 58-50 with seven minutes remaining and Michelle Willson’s basket brought Calgary within
six at 58-52 a minute later but that was as close as the Dinos came. A costly turnover by Calgary, followed by 2 offensive rebounds by Alberta basically sealed the
deal.
Calgary was forced to foul late in the contest and the Pandas made their free throws to seal the contest but Alberta was just 19-of-37 in the contest from the free
throw line.
Ashley Hill was Calgary’s top offensive player with 16 points while Willson added 13 points prior to fouling out. Whitney Haswell had a career night on the boards,
hauling down an unbelievable 17 rebounds.
Coach Harle had this to say, "We knew it was going to be a tough game tonight. We battled back from 18 points down to get within 6. Our turnovers,
offensive rebounds by Alberta and then our inability to convert on offense, killed us down the stretch. However, we showed great fight to get ourselves
back in the game when it looked like it was over in the 3rd quarter. The mistakes down the stretch are things within our control and those are things we
will get better at as he season continues. We are still a work in progress and as long as we continue to battle like we did tonight, great things will happen
for this team!!"
The Dinos hit the road next weekend as they travel south to take on the Lethbridge Pronghorns on January 12 and 13.

DINOS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RECEIVE COMMITMENT FROM KEY CALGARY HIGH SCHOOL PLAYER
University of Calgary women’s basketball coach Shawnee Harle has confirmed that point guard Megan Lang of Bishop O’Bryne High School in Calgary
has committed to the University of Calgary Dinos beginning in the fall 2007. A 5’8” guard, Lang has a wealth of experience having played on various
Alberta Provincial teams. She has been a starter the past two years at Bishop O’Bryne helping her team capture the Calgary Division II Championship
and qualify for the Alberta Provincial High School Championship in 2006. During her High School career she has captured numerous tournament
all-star honors.
Lang has also been a member of the Canada Basketball Center for Performance in Calgary for the past two years. She was a member of the Alberta
Under 17 team and was their starting point guard this past summer when Alberta won the bronze medal. In 2005 Megan was a member of the Alberta
Canada Games team that was silver medalists in Regina despite being just 17 years old.
"Calgary is my hometown. I have been to camps here, watched Dinos games for as long as I can remember and my family can see me play. In addition, Coaches Harle and Mitton have shown great interest in me. On top of that, the U of C has an excellent Kinesiology program,” stated Lang.
Lang was also considering the universities of Toronto and Alberta.
"Megan will make an immediate impact. I love her competitiveness and her basketball intelligence. She is a great passer, great
shooter and best of all, she makes everybody else better. As importantly, she is a person of great character - a winner both on and off the court. I am excited she has chosen the Dinos program,” stated Coach Harle.

EDMONTON, AB
Calgary 82 Alberta 90
The University of Alberta Pandas basketball team continued their impressive play, as four players hit double-digit points en route to a 90-82 win over the visiting University of Calgary Dinos Friday night in the U of A’s Main Gym.
Smith was the sharp shooter for the Pandas offense as she drained four of five three pointers and racked up 19 points to go along with her three steals and five rebounds. Wigg and McLennan chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively, while Kristin Jarock was particularly effective, corralling a game high 11 rebounds while banking seven points.
Scott Edwards Pandas crew came out a little tentative in the early going before the pace of the Dino attack set his crew in motion. The Dinos had worked up a slim 18-15 lead after one quarter but saw that quickly evaporate as Smith and Ariss began to assert themselves on the game. By the time the first half buzzer sounded, Alberta had pushed back for a 37-34 lead.
With the teams playing almost identical ball, hard, fast, aggressive defence and scoring by committee, the two points and the divisional win were up for grabs in this see-saw contest. Despite the fact that both teams play an aggressive, pressure defence, neither team was forced into a multitude of errors and turnovers as Alberta snagged just nine steals, while the Dinos took two. Shooting percentages were almost identical at the half and after the game
with Calgary shooting 39% from the field, 50% from beyond the arc and 75% from the charity stripe after the first half. Alberta shot 31%, 23% and 86% from those same areas, but in the second half, the Pandas took a decided edge in shooting with percentages of 64% (FG), 60% (3-pt) and 74% (FT), while Calgary mustered 54% (FG), 67% (3-pt) and 67% (FT).
In the end, the Alberta offence was simply too much for Calgary to keep up with. The Dinos had three players hit double-digit scoring with Ashley Hill’s team high 14 points; Lindsay Maundrell’s 12 and Jamie Morck’s 11. The Pandas seemed to stay on top of the scoring race by a minimum of six points or more in the second half and although Calgary was able to cash in on points, it was always too little, too late. Alberta outscored their southern rivals 53-48 in second
half, squeezing out the 90-82.
“I thought we had flashes of great play tonight,” said head coach Shawnee Harle. “However, we needed more of those flashes, particularly in the second half. Our mistakes in the 3rd quarter resulted in us having to dig ourselves out of a hole for the last 20 minutes. We need to cut down on our mistakes, both mental and physical and play smart basketball. I know this team is capable – tomorrow night is another opportunity to get it done.”

EDMONTON, AB
Calgary 60 Alberta 79
Third year forward Kristin Jarock exploded for 18 points in the second half as the University of Alberta Pandas basketball team defeated their southern
rivals the University of Calgary Dinos 79-60 Saturday night in the U of A's Main Gym in Edmonton.
Interim Head Coach Scott Edwards got a solid opening half from his team, staking out a 25-19 lead thanks to key players changing their game to secure
the win.
It was Michelle Smith, Jarock and Kara Stevens who led the Pandas in the first half scoring five, four and four points respectively. Smith, who is primarily
a shooter, snagged three boards, nailed a three-ball and added a block ineight minutes of work. Stevens came off the bench and had four rebounds, four
points and three assists in just six minutes of work, while Jarock added four points and no rebounds.
Collectively this was a team win for Alberta as they racked up five blocks and 12 steals compared to Calgary's two blocks and seven steals.
Shooting percentages at the end of the night were fairly close for the second night in a row as Calgary tallied 41% from inside, 25% from outside and 75%
from the free-throw line. Alberta posted 47%, 25% and 70% from those sameareas, the difference being that the Pandas were 23-33 at the foul stripe,
while Calgary was 12-16. The Dinos were called for 30 total personal fouls, including 25 in the second half which allowed Jarock to shoot 7-8, Wigg to shoot
5-7 and Patricia Ariss to shoot 5-6. Alberta committed 19 fouls, including eight in the first half.
Fifth year Dinos' guard Lindsay Maundrell, who scored 12 points last night, scored 11 on a night when the Dinos offence couldn't sustain pressure or
penetrate the key. Ashley Hill was the sweet-shooter in red and white tonight, draining three of seven long distance attempts, giving her nine
points on the night.
“We just couldn’t get anything going tonight,” stated Coach Harle. “I thought our players gave everything they had but we couldn’t buy a basket.
Alberta got us back on our heels in our defensive end which sent them to the line and put us in foul trouble. We weren’t able to do the same at
the
other end. Sometimes it’s just not your night and tonight certainly felt like one of those nights. The good news is we will see this team again
in
January and I look forward to the rematch!”
The Dinos hit the road again this weekend as they face the #4 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

Lethbridge drops to 1-4. The two teams will conclude their two games series Saturday evening.
Calgary held a narrow 21-18 margin at the end of one quarter. Calgary stretched their margin to ten points in the second quarter before Lethbridge
clawed their way back within 34-32 with two minutes remaining and trailed 38-35 at the end of the half. After staying with Calgary early in the third

Whitney Haswell had a “double-double” for Calgary with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Calgary shot 35% from the field as compared to 26% for the
Pronghorns and hauled down 60 rebounds as compared to 50 for their opponents.
"I thought we had a great 3rd quarter, holding Lethbridge to only 6 points," stated Coach Harle. "I think we can kick it up a notch tomorrow night and
we need to come out a little hungrier. There are no easy games in our tough conference and I expect tomorrow night will be another great battle."

Calgary 80 Lethbridge 71
Michelle Willson scored 21 points and hauled down 11 rebounds as the University of Calgary Dinos defeated the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns 80-71 in a hard fought Canada West women’s basketball game Saturday evening. With the triumph the Dinos improve to 3-3 while Lethbridge drops to 1-5 and gives them a sweep of the two game series.
The Dinos led 23-20 after a very offensive opening ten minutes. The second ten minutes were just as close with neither team able to gain a substantial margin with Calgary holding a slim 38-37 lead at the half. The teams exchanged the lead in the third quarter on several occasions. Calgary moved out to a 50-43 margin but Lethbridge went on an impressive 9-0 run on keyed by excellent long range shooting cutting the margin to 50-49 with a minute left in the quarter. The Horns had two possessions to take the lead but could not and trailed by a point. Calgary went on a 10-0 run to start the final quarter taking a 59-49 margin with just over eight minutes left.
Calgary stretched the margin to 64-51 but Lethbridge refused to surrender. The Horns fought back to within three at 64-61 with just under five minutes remaining. Candace Thompson was fouled with 4:14 left and her two free throws pulled Lethbridge to within a point at 64-63. Rookie Stephanie Elford’s lay-up gave Lethbridge a 65-64 lead with three and half minutes left but on the next possession Willson’s two free throws ended Calgary scoreless drought putting Calgary ahead 66-65 for good with three minutes left.
The game was stopped with 2:34 remaining and Calgary leading 67-65 and the Dinos’ Lindsay Maundrell at the free-throw stripe due to a fire alarm with the facility having to be evacuated and the team’s allowed to warm-up causing a 25 minute delay. Calgary moved ahead 73-67 with 87 seconds remaining thanks to perfect free throw shooting and the game ended 80-71 in Calgary's favour.
Michelle Willson had a career night scoring 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Maundrell added 16 points including going 12-for-16 from the free-throw
line for Calgary while Courtney Coyle came off the bench to add 13 more.
Coach Harle had this to say, "I thought we really battled hard tonight and gutted this one out. We found a way to get it done down the stretch
which bods well for our upcoming games. I saw some improvement in our team defense which has been a point of emphasis for us. Michelle
Willson was outstanding tonight and she has really elevated her game. We need to have balanced scoring between our perimeter and post
players and Michelle's 21 points sure helped us in that area."
The Dinos head up the highway next weekend to play the University of Alberta on November 23 and 24.

Simon Fraser 94 Calgary 84
Forward Courtney Gerwing added 24 points and senior guard Kelsie Thu scored 23 points as the Simon Fraser University Clan defeated the University of Calgary Dinos 94-84 in Canada West women’s basketball Friday evening. With the win the Clan improves to 4-1 while Calgary drops to 0-3. The Dinos came out impressively in the opening quarter with excellent shooting taking a 23-15 lead after ten minutes against the #3 ranked team in the country.
Simon Fraser regrouped in the second quarter outscoring the Dinos 31-20 taking a 46-43 lead. Calgary fought back early in the second half tying the contest at 49-49 with seven minutes into the half after the Clan moved ahead by six points. Calgary trailed 67-65 coming entering the final quarter thanks to Whitney Haswell’s basket at the buzzer as the third quarter expired giving the Dinos momentum entering the final ten minutes but the Clan regrouped.
The Clan outscored Calgary 10-2 in the opening four minutes of the final quarter taking control of the contest leading 77-69. The Clan led by 81-71 but Calgary went on a 6-0 run pulling within six 81-77 with four minutes left. A basket by Michelle Willson pulled Calgary to within 82-79 with three minutes left but Thu’s timely trey stretched the margin to 85-79 on the next possession essentially thwarting any Calgary comeback.
The Dinos received balanced scoring with six players recording double figures. Haswell had a perfect night leading Calgary with 16 points
(6/6 from the floor, 4/4 from the line, 2 blocks and 1 steal). Jane Meadwell added 14 with Willson, Lindsay Maundrell and rookie Ashley Hill adding a dozen each and Jamie Morck chipping in with 11.
"Wow, we got so close to winning against a good team tonight," quipped Coach Harle. "Thu's 3 pt. shot with 3 minutes to go was a dagger but I was so
pleased with how hard we battled for 40 minutes. Both this weekend and last weekend, we showed that we can play with the best teams in the country.
It's obvious we can score but we need to defend better to beat the best teams. 84 points should be enough to win but our defense gave up 94 - that's far
too many."

Lindsay Maundrell scored 21 first half points on the way to a game high 28 as the University of Calgary Dinos defeated the Trinity Western University Spartans 101-79 in Canada West women’s basketball action Saturday evening. With the win the Dinos improve to 1-3 while the Spartans drop to 2-4 in Conference regular season competition. Maundrell was outstanding on the offensive end going 6-for-9 from the field and perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes.
Calgary went out to a 27-16 margin at the end of the first quarter and stretched their lead to 55-36 at the half.
The Spartans came out impressivelyto start the second half going on an 8-2 run cutting the margin to 57-44.
They managed to come within 11 points but that was as close as they would come as Calgary regained their
composure to lead 72-57 with ten minutes remaining.
Forward Michelle Willson chipped in with 14 points and hauled down nine rebounds for Calgary. Rookie Ashley
Hill had double figures for the second straight evening connecting for 15 points including four treys.
Calgary shot 51.5% from the field as compared to just 37% for the Spartans.
The Dinos next action is November 17 and 18 when they host the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
"As I mentioned last night, if we can get our defense to tighten up, we are going to be very tough to beat," stated Coach Harle.
"I am pleased with our production on offense as we have the ability to light it up. It's great when the ball is going in but it certainly
puts a lot of pressure on your offense when you give up so many points defensively. I look forward to up coming games where we
can beat teams because of our defense, not our offense. Having said that, it sure was fun to watch how well we clicked tonight!
We handled their pressure and scored against it and they just didn't have an answer defensively for all of our offensive weapons."
